4 Bad Habits That Will Kill the 4R70W Transmission in Your Work F150 Pickup

Posted by on Monday, June 30th, 2014

The 4R70W is a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission built by the Ford Motor Company. 4R70W stands for “4” speeds, “R”ear wheel drive (but it is also used in four-wheel drive application in conjunction with a transfer case), “70” torque, and “W”ide gear ratios. It is closely related to the Ford AODE automatic transmission. The 4R70W differs from the AODE by the fact that it has a lower first and second gear, and uses a mechanical diode instead of a roller clutch. This helps both low speed acceleration and durability. The 4R70W was first used in 1993 and remained in the Ford lineup through the 2004 model year. It was used in a wide range of brands and models, including the Lincoln Mark VIII , the Town Car, the Thunderbird, the Crown Victoria, the Explorer, the Expedition, the Mustang, and the Mercury Cougar. It was also used in the F-series pickup trucks, including the F150.

How to Make the Allison 1000 Transmission in Your Silverado More Durable

Posted by on Monday, June 23rd, 2014

The Allison 1000 is a very heavy-duty, six-speed automatic transmission built by the Allison Company for use in heavy-duty General Motors trucks. Originally the Allison 1000 was a five-speed transmission, but in 2005, the 4th generation of this transmission received a sixth gear. It now features a double overdrive gear that helps increase gas mileage. It also features a way to manually select gears, allowing the vehicle operator to use the transmission and engine to slow the vehicle down, instead of the brakes. It is also a fully electronic transmission.

The Allison 1000 has been in production for a long time and remains in production today. This transmission was used in a number of vehicles, including the Hummer H1 (a GM brand), the GMC Sierra 2500HD, the Chevy Avalanche 2500, and the GMC Topkick. It was also used in the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD.
