15-ish Perfectly Legitimate Reasons to Go Take a Break

Putting in a solid day’s work doesn’t mean spending 8 hours chained to your desk. In fact, it’s been shown that taking breaks throughout the day actually improves your productivity.
A break creates a natural point at which to refocus your energy. Getting ready to tackle a task that’s been on your To-Do list for a while? Take a break. Hitting a wall while brainstorming? Take a break. Thinking about flipping over your painfully slow computer and setting your desk on fire? Take a break.
Without further ado, here are 15 perfectly legitimate reasons to peel your crusty carcass away from your desk and go take a break.

1. Mornings? No thank you, sir.

Seriously, though. What kind of sadist decided that 7 a.m. is a perfectly reasonable start time.

2. You don’t just want coffee. You need it. And that’s a scientific fact.

I need 100 CCs of latte. STAT.

3. You put on pants today; that deserves a victory lap.

Ugh. Dress codes, amiright?

4. It’s far too tempting to reply to that email with a snarky, mean, or otherwise unprofessional response.

Reply All: IF BRAINS WERE GASOLINE; YOU WOULDN’T HAVE THE ENERGY TO POWER A SCOOTER AROUND A QUARTER.

5. You got winded walking to the restroom and are now reevaluating your life choices.

I’m trying this new fad called uh, jogging. I believe it’s jogging or yogging. it might be a soft j. I’m not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It’s supposed to be wild.

6A. You’ve been calling the intern “Intern” for the past 6 months and decide today is the day you’ll finally learn his name.

Now go get me some coffee – wait, no. I’ll go get it myself…

6B. Instead, you learned that Intern’s last day was last week. Godspeed, Intern.

Go on, Intern, you’re free now. Go on, Intern! Get! You have to go, Intern. Please, Intern, go. get! Goooo! Get out of here! Don’t you understand?! Get! I don’t want you anymore! Get!

7. The weather isn’t actively trying to kill you anymore.

Anyone know where Punxsutawney Phil lives? I’ve got a horse head with his name on it…

8. Some projects require getting psyched up first.

Let’s do this.

9. You’re really starting to lose it.

No… more… html…

10. Baseball isn’t going to watch itself; may as well check the Brewers score.

It’s time for my 7th inning stretch.

11. Golf isn’t going to golf itself. Time to hit the driving range!

It’s been a really long winter.

12A. You have to pee so badly, it looks like you’re Prancercising.

Hold it… Hold it… C’mon… So… Close…

12B. Ugh… Awesome.

Welp. Looks like it’s time to stock up on chocolate and waterproof mascara. (Amiright, ladies?)

13. Being an adult is really hard sometimes. Sometimes you need a breather to escape the hard reality that you’ve become your parents.

After 11 years in the workforce, you’d think I’d be better at this “being an adult” thing.

14. How else would I be able to make this gem?
This is some Hogwarts-caliber magic right here.

This is some Hogwarts-caliber magic right here.

And, finally…
15. Because Reman U isn’t going to write itself.

Trust me. This is 100% accurate.

In all seriousness, you need breaks. It takes massive amounts of energy to focus your thoughts on one task, and, frankly, our brains aren’t made for that. Think of it this way, an 8-hour work day is a marathon and your brain is a born sprinter – it works most efficiently in short bursts. Pushing it to sprint farther and longer, will not only exhaust it faster. And an exhausted brain is a nothing more than a big, grey wad of [insert fart sound here].
So, what do you say? Let’s save our brainmeats the stress and go take a break.
