New Year's Reflections

December 29, 2016 By Trans Detective Leave a comment

As 2016 nears its end, it’s common to start to reflect on the previous year: the good, the bad, the ugly, the stuff that made us smile, the stuff that we want to close our eyes and forget.
In the shop, you might be cleaning up invoices, doing inventory of the parts you have and what needs to be ordered, and maybe making sure cores are sent back.
But, with reflection at the end of the year can come stress.
We start thinking about what we could have done better, what projects could we have started earlier in the year, what we should do to start preparing for next year to make it better.  What if instead of reflecting at the end of the year, we started to make reflection a daily occurrence?
Recently, I’ve started adding these to my daily routine:

  • Did I answer every phone call with a positive attitude and smile you could feel through the phone?
  • Did I make sure all the customer’s questions and concerns were taken care of?
  • Was everything I did today reflective of the company’s core values?

Need some help getting started? Give these a try:

  • When I had a customer on the phone, did I take the time to listen to their issue, give them advice, and welcome them into the shop for further investigation?
  • Did I give the best impression of what my business can do to help?
  • Did I provide the quality product, time frame, and friendly service that I promised the customer when I first took the job?
  • Was I able to complete everything I set out to do when I first walked in today? If not, how can I make tomorrow better?

So, to start 2017, I challenge you to join me in my reflection goal. How can we take the person we see in the mirror and make it a better version of yesterday?
