After exchanging pleasantries about weekend plans, you think you\u2019re in the clear as he turns to leave. But then he stops, turns back, and casually utters those fateful words:<br \/>\n<em>\u201cSo for Monday morning\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\nNow maybe you haven\u2019t been in this exact situation, but you\u2019ve probably experienced something similar. It doesn\u2019t matter what your boss asked of you. It was last minute. Without question, pause, or the chance for discussion.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\nYep, you thought it. Or maybe even muttered it under your breath as you got back to work.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Jerk.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nAs tempting as it might be, I\u2019m not going to continue writing about your boss, my boss, and all of the zillions of bosses in the world and all of the jerky things that they do. Darn, right? Could have been a good read.<br \/>\nInstead, here\u2019s a different idea.<br \/>\nThe next time that your boss\/supervision\/manager assigns you something in a way that prompts that four-letter word to pop into your head, I challenge you to do this:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>1. Avoid the water cooler.<\/strong> It\u2019s easy to find the nearest colleague and tell them about how unfair your boss just was. Don\u2019t. Bob or Cindy would probably join in on the conversation but it won\u2019t get any of you anywhere. And, you know what they say about one bad apple\u2026Your <em>harmless<\/em> venting could do actual damage to the overall attitude of your entire team.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>2. Take a Look in the Mirror.<\/strong> There\u2019s a reason your boss came into YOUR office. And it\u2019s not because they wanted to ruin your afternoon. You\u2019re the one getting the extra responsibility and the extra work because your boss sees you as the best one for the job.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>3. Put on Your Big Boy (or Girl) Pants.<\/strong> Feeling overwhelmed and unprepared isn\u2019t fun, I agree. But sometimes, we all need to suck it up. You could spend (<em>waste<\/em>) a lot of time, energy, and creative thought being angry. Or you could focus your efforts on the task at hand and arrive at a much better end result\u2026much faster.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nSo, your boss is a jerk. You\u2019ll survive. And if you challenge yourself to look differently at that extra project that lands on your desk, you\u2019ll knock it farther out of the park than you or your boss ever thought you would.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1201 alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px\" title=\"The Woman Behind the Curtain\" src=\"http:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Jennifer1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"74\" height=\"74\" \/><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Every superhero has a support staff &#8211; and Captain Reman&#8217;s team is no exception. &#8220;The Woman Behind the Curtain&#8221; strikes again as your Reman University writer.
