It just so happened that there was a birthday in the family as well, so I landed at my relative\u2019s house just before kickoff.<br \/>\nIt is no secret among family members that I work in the automotive industry, so aunts and uncles like to vent to me about experiences they have at repair shops and dealerships. Typically, I hear comments like, \u201c<em>They are a bunch of crooks<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>They lied to me from the second I walked in<\/em>.\u201d So when I heard a story about a positive experience, I had to share&#8230;<br \/>\nWhen my Uncle Mike was cruising in his 1997 Chevy Lumina on his way to the grocery store, a squirrel decided that it needed to cross the street, as quickly as possible.\u00a0 As Mike slammed on his brakes, he heard a deafening squeal and felt his steering wheel shake wildly. He cursed to himself knowing that he needed to have his brakes replaced.<br \/>\nHe decided to try a nearby repair shop that he hadn\u2019t been to before but had heard good things. When he pulled up, he had that all too familiar feeling in his gut.<br \/>\n<em>\u201cAs soon as I walk in the door, they\u2019ll start looking for problems with my car, problems that really don\u2019t need to be fixed right now,\u201d he thought. \u201cI know that my transmission is long overdue for a flushing, my belts need to be replaced, and I need an oil change.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1392\" style=\"margin: 10px\" src=\"http:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/More-Than-Just-a-Set-of-Brakes.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"355\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2012\/10\/More-Than-Just-a-Set-of-Brakes.jpeg 507w, https:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2012\/10\/More-Than-Just-a-Set-of-Brakes-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px\" \/>He sat waiting, drinking his complimentary coffee and watching the local weather report while they examined his car. Ten minutes later, they were ready to share their findings.<br \/>\n<em>\u201cOk, so it looks like we need to get you some new brake pads. Other than that, the car looks to be in great shape!\u201d<\/em><br \/>\nIn Uncle Mike\u2019s own words, he was \u201cdumbfounded.\u201d<br \/>\nHe couldn\u2019t believe that they didn\u2019t pull back the curtain and reveal all of the imperfections under his hood. Instead, they gave him a short list of items that he should keep an eye on and sent him on his way without a fuss.\u00a0 When I asked him if he would return to this shop when something on that list needed to be fixed, he replied \u201c<em>Without a doubt.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\nWhile it might have been tempting for the shop to increase my Uncle\u2019s bill as high as possible and sell a large, comprehensive repair job, <strong>they didn\u2019t.<\/strong> It would have been easy to point out the things that <em>could <\/em>be fixed, but <strong>they didn\u2019t<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe result? The shop established themselves in my Uncle\u2019s eyes as honest, trustworthy, and fair. By deciding that his experience carried more weight than a higher immediate profit, they converted a walk-in prospect to a referral-generating, loyal customer.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1342 alignleft\" style=\"margin: 10px\" src=\"http:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Anthony2-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"84\" height=\"84\" \/>Like what Anthony has to say?
