Like many of my coworkers, I often find myself getting hooked on a particular <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialmediaexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media blog<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Never-Eat-Alone-Secrets-Relationship\/dp\/0385512058\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new book<\/a>, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TED talk<\/a> series.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a really good read from productivity expert <a href=\"http:\/\/neenjames.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Neen James<\/a> popped into my inbox and I haven\u2019t been able to get it out of my head. And lucky you, I\u2019m going to share\u2026.<br \/>\nWith spring &amp; warmer weather right around the corner, you might be like me in feeling that you\u2019re so busy that you don\u2019t know if you\u2019ll be able to find the time to appreciate it\u2026or even notice. \u00a0There are customers to help, sales goals to hit, fires to put out, and new business to be done.<br \/>\nMaybe you\u2019re special and have more than the standard 24 hours in the day. But where do the rest of us start if we need to get all of our work accomplished yet still want to have time for a few \u201cpassion projects\u201d?<br \/>\nYou start with <strong>no.<\/strong><br \/>\nOne small word that stands on it\u2019s own. One word that needs zero explanation. Saying it, though, is only half the battle:<br \/>\n<strong>No-Way #1- Have Written Priorities.<\/strong> Before you get crazy with saying <strong>no<\/strong> to any new task that comes your way, understand the full scope of what you\u2019re working on AND what is being asked. Are you the best person for the job? Could you get it done in time? Do you understand it from start to finish? If you find that your \u201cto-do\u201d list is scattered between a Google calendar, a planner in your bag, and a bunch of post-its stuck all over your desk, I think you know where you need to start.<span style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>No-Way #2- Delete &amp; Delegate.<\/strong> One of Neen&#8217;s points that connected with me most is that saying <strong>no<\/strong> isn\u2019t about shirking responsibility and letting it all fall to the wayside. If you don\u2019t have time to do something because your plate is too full, are there things already on there that someone else could do? Or better yet, things that could be done better than even you could?<span style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>No-Way #3- Be Brief. <\/strong>Saying <strong>no<\/strong> isn\u2019t easy, especially if you\u2019re a part of a team.\u00a0 If you over-explain your reasoning behind why you can\u2019t take on planning the company retreat or organizing your new parts area, you\u2019ll quickly be <em>that guy<\/em>. The one who makes excuses and isn\u2019t a team player.<br \/>\nSaying <strong>no<\/strong> means that you\u2019re saying <strong>yes<\/strong> to working as best, as passionately, as productively as you can.
