\nSocial media is like a sandwich. You\u2019ve got your bread-meat-cheese base like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Then you add on some lettuce, pickles, or tomatoes, or Google+, YouTube and Pinterest, in social terms. But what really makes it? The condiments. These are the apps and sites that add flavor to your social media experience.
\nHow do we like to sauce up our social media experience? With Instagram, Vine, and Tumblr.
\nInstagram<\/a><\/strong>
\nA picture is worth a thousand words. So this post is irrelevant. The end.
\nI kid. I kid.
\nLike a good mustard, Instagram complements damn near anything. With 19 filters and 150 million active users, this photo and video sharing platform is an easy way to visually tell your company\u2019s story. As with all social media, the goal is to engage with your customers. But how do you do that? Highlight your products, host a competition, or give a behind the scenes look at what you do. Use your Instagram feed to create an experience \u2013 like this:<\/p>\n

Vine<\/a><\/strong>
\nThis is like the Sriracha of the social media world – it\u2019s spicy, has a variety of uses, and doesn\u2019t take a lot to make an impact. Vine manages to pack a lot of punch into a 6 second video clip. Yes, I know. \u201cHow can 6-seconds of video possible tell my story?\u201d With a little creativity, of course. In fact, some major brands like Virgin Mobile, Oreo, Urban Outfitters, Lowe\u2019s, and General Electric have embraced Vine. While we\u2019re not Vine masters yet, we\u2019re having fun creating new, original, and fairly ridiculous content.<\/p>\n

Tumblr<\/a><\/strong>
\nThis is Wisconsin. Cheese sauce is totally a condiment. And Tumblr is the creamy, gooey goodness that covers your social sandwich like a cheese hug. And, if you\u2019re looking to engage with the under 25 crowd, it\u2019s where you need to be. This platform is more than just a place to post a white paper. It captures what\u2019s great about blogging and adds an element of interactivity. Followers can like, comment on, and share your posts. They can also send fan mail or ask questions that you can then answer. The only danger is being sucked into the endless vortex of Tumblr ridiculousness (see Literally Unbelievable <\/a>and T-Rex Trying<\/a>)
\nSo branch out from the safety of a meat-n-cheese social media experience and kick things up a notch with these experience-enhancing social apps.<\/p>\n
