{"id":2937,"date":"2015-06-04T15:41:42","date_gmt":"2015-06-04T20:41:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/?p=2937"},"modified":"2015-06-04T15:41:42","modified_gmt":"2015-06-04T20:41:42","slug":"hiring-for-tomorrow-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/2015\/06\/04\/hiring-for-tomorrow-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Hiring for Tomorrow, Part 2: How to Hire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2939\" src=\"http:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/RU-2121-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"RU #122\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nLike our Jill of All Trades mentioned in Part 1 of this series, <a title=\"Hiring for Tomorrow: The Set Up\" href=\"http:\/\/etereman.com\/remanu\/hiring-for-tomorrow-the-set-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hiring for Tomorrow: The Set Up<\/a>, finding qualified candidates is a lot more involved than posting an ad &#8211; especially so if you want someone that will stand the test of time.<br \/>\nBut before you cast your net, how do you decide when it\u2019s time to start hiring?<br \/>\nThere are the obvious times:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When an employee puts in their notice.<\/li>\n<li>When your business expands to another location.<\/li>\n<li>When you start offering a new product or service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And then, there are the less obvious, but just-as-important times:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you\u2019re spending more time returning voicemails than following up with your best customers.<\/li>\n<li>When you sell to a new customer for the first time and don\u2019t even realize it.<\/li>\n<li>When your trained sales reps become order processors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you recognize that it\u2019s time to hire, do yourself these 3 favors:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cast More Than One Net.<\/strong> For us, LinkedIn works well for our customer-facing teams but rarely is it the only place an opening is listed. Think about industry trade groups, organizations in your city, or local colleges and universities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fish Where There Are Fish.<\/strong> When posting your position, pick a platform or avenue that already caters to the kinds of employees you want. Especially if you\u2019re shelling out a fee for a paid listing, be sure you have a good understanding of how many people you have the potential of reaching. (Read as: don\u2019t waste your time on shiny new job sites with small pools of job seekers.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drop a Line in Your Own Network.<\/strong> Referrals from your current employees are great, but they eventually will run out of friends. Remember that sharp person at last month\u2019s trade show; the one with whom you had a great conversation? They may have been fishing for a business lead, but you may have landed your next hire.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Filling a open position isn\u2019t easy, but it is a necessary part of keeping your success \u2013 and the sanity of your team \u2013 moving forward.
