This is you, after all.) and mentally prepare for how you can best make this day work with one less set of hands.<\/em><\/h4>\n

 
\nHow about this kind of afternoon?<\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

You plop down in your desk chair with your jacket still on from lunch. Three upset customers and a 2-star Facebook review, it\u2019s hard to believe it\u2019s barely past noon. The phone rings\u2026and rings. You answer instead. Better make that four customers.<\/em><\/h4>\n

 
\nA pile of bills on your desk. Unanswered emails. That to-do list that started as a friendly Post-it note and is now of menacing War and Peace <\/em>length. When you\u2019re behind, there are obvious signs. And one of the easiest thoughts to creep into your own mind and out of the lips of coworkers? \u201cMan, you should really hire someone.\u201d<\/em>
\nI should<\/em>, you think. After all, with more help, I\u2019d be able to get everything <\/strong>done and more.<\/em>
\nThe potential for what you could accomplish if you just had more people on your team is mighty alluring, like a siren calling you closer. Seems harmless, right? W-r-o-n-g. This thought is a sea witch \u2013 and she\u2019ll take you, your crew, and your beautiful metaphorical boat down with her.
\nWhen you\u2019re seemingly behind, it\u2019s easy to blame it on being understaffed. And though every business needs a certain number of people to function, it\u2019s not a numbers game.<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Unreturned voicemails don\u2019t disappear by adding another person to answer the phone.<\/li>\n
  • New sales reps won\u2019t magically convert a lead list to loyal customers.<\/li>\n
  • Adding a new builder doesn\u2019t shorten your average customer turnaround time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The ability to accomplish isn\u2019t grounded in having more, but in having better<\/em>. Do you really need to hire \u2013 or are you understaffed in skill?
