You\u2019ve probably heard that the best time to fire an employee is on a Friday\u00a0afternoon, just before closing, so that the employee has the weekend \u201cto\u00a0think about things and calm down.\u201d A weekend of thinking (the theory goes)\u00a0helps to ease the pain of having lost one\u2019s job.

\nI\u2019ve never been one to ascribe to that philosophy. In fact, I think the best\u00a0day to fire an employee is immediately after you\u2019ve made the decision to do
\nso.
\nWhy prolong the agony? Why subject your customers or your other\u00a0employees to the person you want to eliminate? But, alas, that\u2019s a topic for\u00a0a future article.
\nToday, I\u2019d like to share a recent revelation with you \u2013 a concept I\u2019ve just\u00a0learned about from an avid reader (who wishes to remain anonymous), who\u00a0proclaims that you should \u201cnever deliver bad news on a Friday.\u201d<\/strong>
\nHis idea is that a transmission shop should never tell a customer that their\u00a0car needs a new transmission on a Friday afternoon. He alleges that the\u00a0customer will \u201cthink things through\u201d and simply buy a new car on Saturday.
\nSame goes for after 4pm on any weekday. Our reader has found that if he\u00a0calls to tell the customer about the need for a new transmission late in the\u00a0afternoon, the customer will say \u201cI\u2019d like to think about it overnight.\u201d\u00a0The customer then discusses his situation with a spouse, a friend, a\u00a0neighbor, another shop, Facebook, etc., and often decides to not fix the car at all.
\nIn other words, our reader has discovered that his closing ratio is\u00a0considerably higher if he makes the pitch earlier in the day and earlier in\u00a0the week.
\nIt\u2019s an interesting notion \u2013 one that has me thinking about the timing of\u00a0things. But before I begin testing, I\u2019d like to know what\u00a0you<\/strong> think.
