yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>An assembly of 20 people from 7 states.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>There are A LOT of things on the list: flights to book, hotels accommodations, local transportation logistics, name tags, logo clothing, swag bags, meals, agendas, speakers notes, out of office messaging, training room a\/v, headsets for a facility tour, presentation slides, photography, welcome signs, dozens of emails, hundreds of instant messages.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Did I miss anything?!<\/p><p>Of course I missed something!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Something(s) haven\u2019t and won\u2019t go as planned.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s ok, we\u2019ll fix them and roll with whatever we can\u2019t.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s not the message for this week though.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This weeks RemanU is about preparation.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I believe we make our own luck.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In other words, the better position we put ourselves in, through preparation, the better our chance to get lucky or have success.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The key to pulling off a big thing with a lot of moving parts whatever that may be (your wedding, a software implementation, new product launch, a presentation\u2026.) is to prepare and prepare well.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p><p>I\u2019m not an expert at this, but I\u2019m learning and making progress and want to share a few things for the anxious, overwhelmed and my fellow procrastinators.<\/p><ul><li><strong>Start making your list early!<\/strong><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Keep refining it as you go.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/li><li><strong>Include others and share the whole thing with them not just the part they can help with or are responsible for.<\/strong><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span>They will surprise you with their helpfulness and ideas.<\/li><li><strong>Review the list on a regular cadence by yourself and with others.<\/strong><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Ask for advice.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Ask lots of questions: What could go wrong?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>What could be better?<\/li><li><strong>Set aggressive and public deadlines.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>Sharing deadlines holds everyone accountable including yourself.<\/li><li><strong>Prioritize.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>Make sure the critical and time sensitive things are done first and done well.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u2019t work on the other stuff until you\u2019ve got the priorities under control.<\/li><li><strong>Work backwards.<\/strong><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In order for X to happen, what needs to happen first and along the way to make it happen?<\/li><li><strong>Do something special.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>Find one thing and go over and above to make it amazing.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>One or two special things will give everything else a polished feel and make a little miss here or there forgettable.<\/li><li><strong>Have fun!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>Big ambitious projects are a ton of work.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>If you aren\u2019t having (making) some fun along the way, the grind will wear you down and stress you out.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Laugh along the way!<\/li><li><strong>Let it go.<\/strong><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span>The bigger the thing, the less likely you\u2019ll nail down every detail.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>When something doesn\u2019t go right, let it go and move on.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Your attitude will be mirrored by those working with you and sharing the experience you create.<\/li><li><strong>Seize the day.<\/strong><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Seize today.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The more you can get done, the earlier, the better off you\u2019ll be to realize a new opportunity or address an issue.<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Ok, hope that helps!
