However, their platforms are not the most effective for building your business.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Well, what is? Set down your laptop, cell phone, iPad, and take a look in the mirror.<\/h3>\n<p>There is nothing quite like face-to-face networking. For your prospects, there is no better <strong>first impression<\/strong> than seeing the passion and commitment in your eyes as you talk about how your product helps THEIR business. For your customers, there is no better <strong>connection<\/strong> than recognizing them in a crowd and extending a friendly handshake. For your competition, there is no better showing of a <strong>strong industry presence<\/strong> than seeing you in action at a trade show\u2026and with the most fun booth.<br \/>\nWhat tips do we use to grow most effectively via a trade show?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Be prepared.<\/strong> \u00a0Review the exhibitor lists in advance. Who are your neighbor booths? Where is your competition located? Who is exhibiting for the first time?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be proactive.<\/strong> Reach out to those you want to meet in advance of the show, and set appointments &amp; meetings for while you\u2019re both in the same place.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dress the part.<\/strong> At a trade show, you\u2019ll be making hundreds of first impressions\u2026make them count. Resist the temptation to blend in with your industry crowd. You\u2019ve got to look good if you want to make the right first impression.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do something memorable.<\/strong> To be effective, you have to stand out. Have the coolest business card on the planet. Invest in an electronic or custom nametag. Have a great 30-second personal commercial (sometimes called an elevator pitch) prepared. You\u2019re going to be asked, \u201cWhat do you do?\u201d about a million times. Don\u2019t be boring.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Follow up quickly.<\/strong> You\u2019ve spent your time and money to get to the show \u2013earn a return on your investment while the excitement is still present. Your new connections are waiting for your call when you get back, but their memory of you fades with each passing day. Call them \u2013 NOW.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s all well and good that we were able to network at VISION and take full advantage of one-on-one time with prospects and customers alike. Here are 5 easily implementable tips that are wallet AND time-friendly.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Attend networking events hosted by local groups and associations.<\/strong> Don\u2019t know where to find these groups in your area? <a title=\"LinkedIn\" href=\"http:\/\/linkedin.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LinkedIn<\/a> is a great search tool for this. A big perk of these events? You can drive to them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Show up at your customer\u2019s office.<\/strong> Nothing shows that you care more than your time. Bring them lunch, and gain 20 minutes of quality time. Ask them how you\u2019re doing\u2026and really listen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Join your chamber of commerce<\/strong> if you aren\u2019t a member, and take another look at their event calendar if you are and haven\u2019t in a while. Most events are at a nominal cost and scheduled after business hours.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organize an afternoon at your location.<\/strong> Invite prospects and customers both for a tour, to get to know you better, and throw a barbeque in your parking lot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take the old conference call to a new level<\/strong> and invite a prospect at a distance to have a cup of coffee with you\u2026over <a title=\"Skype\" href=\"http:\/\/www.skype.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skype<\/a>. You can even email them a <a title=\"Starbucks EGift\" href=\"https:\/\/www.starbucks.com\/shop\/card\/egift\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$5 Starbucks e-gift certificate<\/a>the day before.
