Maybe it’s because of New Year’s resolutions. Or because of changes in corporate healthcare policies. Or maybe, it’s because that pair of “fat pants” usually in the back of the closet has crept towards the front. But lately, we’ve noticed ourselves becoming more & more health conscious.
You too, huh?
By the time many of us get home at the end of the day, we’re so tired that exercise is the last thing on our minds. There’s dinner to be cooked, laundry to be done, kids to take care of, and a dog to walk. Oh, and football to watch. With so many distractions and opportunities to make excuses, our team was anxious to find a way to stay fit while still honoring our responsibilities.
Consider this:
– According to the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, employees that can use work time for exercise maintain the same level of productivity or higher. Those who spend 2.5 hours a week being physically active are more satisfied with the quantity and quality of their work & take less sick time than employees who aren’t engaged in physical activity.
– Movement and exercise increase breathing and heart rate so that more blood flows to the brain, enhancing energy production.
– A recent Australian study found that a healthy worker is 300% more productive than a less-healthy one.
After an ETE Sales Team brainstorming session, the ETExercise Challenge was born.
So what’s ETExercise? It’s a set of circuits that we created right on our sales floor. Each day, we train in 40 second increments and rotate between 6 stations, using supplies we already had plus some additional equipment we picked up for less than $40. And all the while, we continuing to answer phone calls and respond to emails.
Here’s what we use:
As a team, we quickly found these mini breaks throughout the day to be a great use of the time we already had to be healthier. Initially, this started as a commitment for our sales team, but it has since stretched to other departments in our office.
Could your team use an outlet for motivating one another? How about a jump start to productivity? What about a new-found energy unlike anything that a coffee or Red Bull can provide? With a higher level of focus, not to mention increased morale, how would your sales change?
As our readers, we wanted to share a little bit more than our example/experience. An idea like the ETExercise Challenge might not be for your team but in case it is..kick start your own office program or “join” ours! Click to download our printable circuit station signs or add your email to get reminders at the same time we’re pumping iron.
