Hey, you. Auto shop guy. Yes you.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: it’s 2014.
Oh, I’m sorry. You already know what year it is, eh? Then you have no excuse to not have a web presence.
Look, I know that the thought of putting together a website is intimidating. But, at this point, having one for your business isn’t an option – it’s a necessity.
Think of it this way: would you expect your customers to find your business even if it didn’t have a sign on the building? Of course not. Well, your website is your business’ Internet sign. It lets your customers – or potential customers – know where you are, what you do, and that you’re open for business.
Not convincing enough? Well, here are more reasons why you need a website:
Your Customers Expect It
You know where your (potential) customers go to find information? Not the Yellow Pages. They’re searching for it online. If you’re not a search result, you don’t exist. Which brings me to my next point… Your Competition Has One. Go to Google and search for “[your service]” and “[your location].” You see your competitors listed? Yeah. That’s business you’re not getting. Want to see just how much business you’re not getting? Go to google.com/adwords and type in those same keywords. Gross, huh?
It Improves Your Customer Service
At its core, a website is a customer service tool. Not only can your customers look up where you’re located, when you’re open, and what you do, there’s a whole slew of ways a website can improve customer experience. It can Lend Credibility to your business by including customer testimonials and reviews. It’s Always Available even when you’re not. It Saves You Time by not having to answer phone calls or email inquiries. It can Improve Your Business; the veil of anonymity that the Internet creates allows for constructive feedback.
It’s Deceptively Inexpensive
You can build and maintain a website on Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, or Go Daddy for less than $500 a year. That’s cheaper than a print ad, billboard, or Yellow Page listing. Even better? You can set up Google AdWords campaigns to drive search traffic to your site and Increase Your Visibility without breaking your budget. And, unlike traditional forms of advertising, a good website is Easily Updated, so the information your customers receive is never out of date.
Listen, I don’t mean to beat a dead horse (RIP Barbareaux), but there is no valid reason to not have a website. You have the tools, make the time, and get you’re a$% online.

Your customers aren’t looking for you in the Yellow Pages. They’re searching online. And according to our Jill of All Trades, Aimee, you don’t exist if you’re not a search result. Tough love? Maybe. But accurate advice to get your butt online? You bet. Leave a comment for Aimee below or email her directly!
