Balance. Everyone talks about it, but how many people actually achieve it?
Whether it is work/life balance, family balance, exercise balance, even as simple as balancing a checkbook (do people still do that?) we all struggle in some way to feel like we are achieving everything we set out to accomplish.
Perfection. Everyone’s perfection is different. Your life as a shop owner isn’t the same as your technicians, your customers, or your neighbors. How we create our sense of perfection is just like balance, we have to determine what is important and what can or can’t wait until the next day.
- Make an attainable list – Start Small. Start each day with a realistic list. Do not list everything and anything you want to achieve, because sorry to report, it will not all be accomplished in one day. Put things on your list that are the most important to you to get done TODAY. Once these are checked off, the calm should spill over to other aspects of your life.
- Your balance is YOURS – You determine what is important to you. You determine what needs to be done to reach the balance you strive to achieve. Some days you will conquer it all, but there will be many days when you come up just a little short and that is okay. As long as we strive to keep getting better, that is true balance.
- Your perfection is YOURS – Stop comparing yourself to people you follow on social media or the shop down the street. Everyone is trying to project that they have everything together, but remember it’s okay not to. Just like above, your perfection is yours, you determine what is of greatest value to you in your life and what will make you the happiest person you can be.
We all have 5 basic human needs: sleep, shelter, clothing, food or water. Not all of us are able to achieve these needs, but all of us have the exact same amount of time in a day. The balance comes with ensuring that your total day is left with everyone in your life feeling important, especially you.
How are you going to choose how to use your 1,440 minutes each day?
What is your version of perfect that will help to achieve your balance?
